PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon First Lady Cylvia Hayes yesterday admitted to her involvement in the 1997 purchase of a property intended to be used as a marijuana grow operation.
Just four months after she married an Ethiopian man to help him become a US citizen, Hayes was involved with a property she admits was intended to be an illegal marijuana grow operation.
The fiancee of Governor Kitzhaber had publicly admitted Thursday she had an illegal secret marriage from 1997 until 2001. She said she was paid $5000 by the man.
Public records show that just four months after that, in November 1997, she and another man bought a piece of property near the Canadian border.
Patrick Siemion sold the property to the pair, but said they soon stopped making payments. Hayes gave up her interest in the property in April 1998.
In a statement to KOIN 6 News, Hayes confirmed that the property was intended to be a marijuana grow operation that never materialized. Hayes maintains that she paid none of the $15,000 down or any monthly payments.
