Stiles Prineville’s Interim Chief

Prineville.Police.STOCK.1PRINEVILLE, OR — Nearly a month after the city of Prineville fired its police chief, a well-known former sheriff has been appointed to temporarily lead the department.  Former Deschutes County Sheriff Les Stiles was sworn in Monday as Prineville’s interim police chief.  City officials said he will serve for an indefinite period of time, not only leading the department, but he will also review department operations, policies and procedures and “best practice” standards, and assist in recruiting a permanent chief.

Stiles retired from law enforcement in 2007 after six years as sheriff of Deschutes County.

Prineville’s former police chief, Eric Bush was fired after an outside investigation concluded he misused city “flex time,” falsified records and provided poor leadership to the department.  Bush denies those findings and has filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against the city.
