JOHN DAY, OR — The Pine Creek Complex burning between Fossil and John Day has burned 129,178 acres. The largest of the fires, the Black Rock Fire, has burned 34,177 acres three miles northwest of Clarno. The Donny Brook Fire has burned 22,756 acres southwest of Antelope. Crews have not reported containment for either of those fires.
The Pine Creek Fire burning 11 miles south of Fossil has burned 29,490 acres with 15% containment. The Jack Knife Fire in the Lower John Day Recreation Area has burned 13,263 acres with 80% containment.
Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level Two Evacuation Orders for scattered homes in the Brush Creek area near Twickenham over the weekend. And while the John Day River remains open, people recreating should be aware that helicopters may be working in the area and dipping into the river and use appropriate caution.
