Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is Short Staffed

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is short staffed after they lost 21 over the last year.

In order to maintain minimum staffing levels in its jail, Sheriff Shane Nelson has had to move deputies from other divisions and increase overtime.

They have only filled a handful of vacancies, which are mostly in the corrections division.

To correct the shortage the Sheriff’s office has plans to bring more full-time positions into their budget.
