Morning Commute – Fatality on Hwy 97 Near Bend’s North End

Bend, Ore. – Bend’s Highway 97 was shut down for a time Wednesday morning during the morning commute.

Bend police confirmed that a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the highway at Grandview Avenue. Marked crosswalks are not visible in that area.

The collision occurred on the northbound side, near the area of the left-turn lane where vehicles enter onto Grandview Avenue.

Traffic for a time was diverted northbound at Cooley Road onto Highway 20.

One lane was reported open around 8 a.m., but despite the quick clean-up by authorities, traffic was backed up for miles.
