Authorities told BBC at least 11 people were killed and 192 injured.

Most of the casualities were reported in the Tanzanian town of Bukoba, according to BBC.

Tremors could be felt as far away as western Kenya, in parts of Uganda, and in Rwanda.

The USGS said the earthquake was not expected to generate any tsunamis along Lake Victoria.

“There have been historical cases, in which tsunamis have been generated in lakes, so that would be a concern if the magnitude of the quake was higher. That is not the case here,” Geophysicist Rafael Abreau at USGS told ABC News.
