Wildfire In Warm Springs – 5,000 Acres Scorched

Warm Springs, Ore. – A wildfire spread quickly Sunday afternoon on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation burning over 5,000 acres of grass, near the junction of the Warm Springs and Deschutes rivers.

Reports of smoke can be seen across much of the High Desert.

The Rattlesnake Fire, which began near Rattlesnake Springs, was reported just before 4 p.m. about five miles north-northeast of Warm Springs, according to fire officials.

The fire was burning in steep canyons and slopes on the sides of Webster Flats.

A total of 65 fire crew members have been battling the blaze, working to confine it to Webster Flats, keeping it from homes along the Deschutes River.

It was still reported actively burning at midnight, with no estimate of containment.

The cause is under investigation.

With more hot temperatures forecasted for the week ahead along with hot dry breezes, the potential for more fires are high.
