On Saturday, the NHL announced that the Los Angeles Kings and Staples Center would host next year’s 2017 All-Star Weekend.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman delivered the news during his annual address at the All-Star Game.
According to Bettman, the league chose Los Angeles because the Kings will be celebrating the team’s 50th anniversary and “because of the impact their home arena, Staples Center, has had on the transformation of downtown Los Angeles,” according to NHL.com.
It’ll be Staples Center’s second time to host the NHL All-Star Game and the third time the Kings have hosted. In 1981, the Kings hosted the game at The Forum where they used to play.
