KABC-TV(SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.) — The site of the deadly San Bernadino shooting is a facility aimed at providing services for the developmentally disabled.

Police said Wednesday there were “confirmed fatalities” after multiple shooters opened fire at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, but it was not clear who in the center was targeted.

Police said multiple shooters entered the facility during a function there Wednesday and “just started shooting,” according to Sgt. Vicki Cervantes of the San Bernardino Police.

The San Bernardino Sheriff’s office was searching for one to three suspects, according to law enforcement officials.

The shooting took place at a center helps people with developmental disabilities of all ages. The Inland Regional Center was founded in 1971 with the goal of eliminating barriers for the developmentally disabled so they can “closely live a typical lifestyle,” according to their Facebook page.

There are 670 staff members at the center to provide services for 30,200 people from the San Bernardino and Riverside counties in California, per Facebook. Programs are aimed at a variety of ages from Early Start programs for toddlers to senior programs for those over the age of 60.
