(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — Carolina Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin will miss the entirety of the 2015 season, the team announced late Wednesday, after he tore his ACL in training camp.
In a quote posted to the team’s Twitter account, General Manager Dave Gettleman said that the second-year receiver had “worked tremendously hard to put himself in position to have a strong year.” Still, Gettleman added, “we’re confident he will attack his surgery and rehab with the same determination he has met all challenges before.”
ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen called the injury a “huge setback” for Carolina. In his rookie year, Benjamin caught 73 passes — second on the team to only tight end Greg Olsen, and led the Panthers with over 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
ESPN says the injury occurred when Benjamin made a routine cut in practice on Wednesday.
