(ENGELMANNREUTH, Germany) — A U.S. F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training session out of Spangdahlem Air Base on Tuesday morning, injuring the pilot.
According to a police spokesman in Upper Franconia, the American pilot managed to eject from the plane and landed with a parachute. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
A press release from the Spangdahlem Air Base, the crash occurred at about 9:38 a.m. local time. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
U.S. military first responders and German authorities were working to secure the crash site as investigations began.
