Meet Grace Thomas, American Girl's 2015 Girl of the Year

American Girl(NEW YORK) — American Girl’s Girl of the Year 2015 was revealed Wednesday on ABC News’ Good Morning America, and her name is Grace Thomas.

Grace, 9, is described by American Girl as an avid baker and aspiring entrepreneur.

She is the newest doll in the specialty line, which produces dolls depicting girls of diverse races and interests as well as physical differences and disabilities. Each doll comes with books detailing her individual story and character.

According to a statement from American Girl, Grace was motivated to follow her dream of starting a French bakery business after a trip to Paris broadened her perspective. She started the business back home with her two best friends.

The Grace collection includes an 18-inch Grace doll with long dark brown hair and blue eyes. Each doll retails for $115.

Additional items in the collection include French-inspired outfits, accessories and toys that reflect her interests.

The Grace doll will be available for a year starting on New Year’s Day 2015 in the specialty store, at the store’s website and through its catalog. A movie about her story will debut on DVD in the summer.

To support Grace’s story, American Girl has launched For Goodness, Bake!, a year-long fundraising initiative to support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry, a campaign to end child hunger in America.

American Girl has donated $50,000 to No Kid Hungry and is encouraging girls to host charity bake sales in their communities and donate proceeds to the campaign.

Other Grace-related activities — including cooking classes, an online travel and cooking journal and in-store cooking demonstrations — will unfold throughout the year.

The American Girl doll of the year for 2014 was Isabelle, a dancer.
