Stabbing At COCC Dorm

Bend, Ore- The Bend Police Department is investigating a stabbing at Central Oregon Community College.

 

Police say it happened shortly after midnight on November 1st. at NW College Way.  When Police arrived they found the victim, James Briles in the hallway of the dorm. 

 

He was suffering from multiple stab wounds.  Bend Paramedics rushed him to St. Charles in Bend with life threatening injuries.  .

 

Officers were quickly able to identify Eric Norgaard as the person responsible for stabbing Briles. Norgaard was contacted in his dorm room and taken into custody without incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed Briles and Norgaard are roommates. The weapon used is believed to be a knife. Up to this point in the investigation, the attack appears to have been unprovoked.

Several residents either witnessed the attack or the immediate aftermath. A Central Oregon Police Chaplain responded to the scene in order to assist residents in dealing with this traumatic incident.

At the time of this release, St. Charles Medical Center advised Briles is in critical condition. Norgaard has been arrested, lodged at the Deschutes County Adult Jail, and is being held on the below-listed charges.

This appears to be an isolated attack and there is no indication that residents / students are in any danger.
